TMC to Sell Approaching Vehicle Audible System for ‘Prius’

Toyota City, Japan, August 24, 2010—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that, in line with its efforts to ensure an ever-safer traffic environment, it will begin sales on August 30 of an onboard device designed to alert pedestrians and others audibly to the presence of a quiet vehicle, such as a gasoline-electric hybrid. The device will be available nationwide through authorized Toyota dealers and Toyota genuine parts & accessories distributors for retrofitting on the third-generation “Prius” gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle.

Sales in Japan of TMC Hybrids Top 1 Million Units

—Global Sales Pass 2.68 Million Units—

Toyota City, Japan, August 5, 2010—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that cumulative sales in Japan of its hybrid vehicles have topped the 1-million mark, while more than 2.68 million units have been sold globally as of July 31, 20101.

In August 1997 in Japan, TMC launched its first hybrid vehicle, the Toyota “Coaster Hybrid EV” minibus. In December of the same year, TMC launched the Toyota “Prius”—the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle.

Tesla Motors and Toyota Motor Corporation Formalize Agreement to Develop Electric Version of RAV4


Palo Alto, California, U.S.A., and Tokyo, Japan — TESLA MOTORS, INC. (Tesla) and TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) today announced that the two companies have signed an agreement to initiate the development of an electric version of the RAV4 as announced in May of this year by Elon Musk and Akio Toyoda.  With an aim to market the EV in the United States in 2012, prototypes will be made combining the Toyota RAV4 model with a Tesla electric powertrain.  Tesla plans to produce and deliver a fleet of prototypes to Toyota for evaluation within this year.  The first prototype has already been built and is now undergoing testing.

Toyota to Produce ‘Etios’ Engines, Transmissions in India


Bangalore, India, July 6, 2010—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt, Ltd. Toyota Announces New President for European Operations

Toyota has appointed Didier Leroy President of Toyota Motor Europe (TME), effective June 24, 2010*. Didier Leroy will be responsible for overseeing all of Toyota’s European operations, including manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing; he will also retain his current titles of Managing Officer, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and Chief Quality Officer. He replaces Tadashi Arashima, who will retire from his current positions.
