Mazda Announces New Design Theme: ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’

Leverkusen, 3 September 2010. Mazda Motor Corporation today announced Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’, and the design concept model, Mazda SHINARI, a pure expression of this new theme.

Since launching its first passenger car, the Mazda R360 Coupe, exactly 50 years ago, Mazda has spent many years exploring the concept of ‘motion,’ offering customers designs that are exciting both to view and to drive. In particular, since the launch of the Zoom-Zoom brand message, Mazda has pursued the concept of more athletic and sporty motion, and has adopted dynamic designs for all Mazda models starting with the Mazda6 and followed by the RX-8 and the Mazda2. In recent years, this motion-based design has been further extended to incorporate the theme of ‘motion inspired by nature’, embodied in the Mazda NAGARE concept car series and the all-new Mazda5.

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has released a four-wheel-drive (4WD) version of the all-new Mazda Premacy (known overseas as the all-new Mazda5), a stylish, versatile and uniquely functional seven-seat minivan. The 4WD Premacy is available in two model grades and goes on sale today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini, and Mazda Autozam dealerships nationwide. Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices range from 2,109,000 to 2,314,000 yen, including sales taxes.

All-New Mazda Premacy Proves Popular in Japan


- First-month orders more than four times the monthly sales target; 80 percent of customers choose i-stop -

This result, achieved in the one month between the July 1 sales launch and August 1, 2010, is over four times the monthly sales target of 1,800 units. Mazda Launches All-New Premacy in Japan


- Mazda’s stylish minivan comes equipped with i-stop and offers best in class* fuel economy -

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has commenced sales of the all-new Mazda Premacy (known overseas as the Mazda5) in Japan. Mazda’s stylish, versatile and uniquely functional seven-seat minivan goes on sale today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealerships nationwide. Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (including sales taxes) range from 1,799,000 to 2,314,000 yen. The target sales volume is 1,800 units per month. A four-wheel-drive (4WD) version will be released in early August.

New Head of R&D at Mazda Motor Europe

Hiroyuki Matsumoto has been appointed new Vice President and General Manager of Mazda’s European Research & Development Centre in Oberursel, Germany. He replaces Norihiro Tomita, who has led Mazda’s R & D organisation in Europe since May 2007, and is moving to a new position as Programme Manager in Mazda’s Vehicle Development Division in Japan.
Matsumoto-San, 47, is a veteran engineer with years of management experience in product development. He joined Mazda in 1985 working for the Test and Research Department No. 2 in Japan, and went on to a stellar career as Manager and General Manager in the NVH Development Department. His last job before coming to Europe was General Manager for Chassis Development. He holds a degree in technology from the Kyoto University.

Mazda SKY Concept Powertrains and Premium Sporty Mazda8 Minivan on Display at Beijing Motor Show

Mazda will exhibit the ‘Mazda SKY-G’ direct injection gasoline engine, the ‘Mazda SKY-D’ clean diesel engine and the ‘Mazda SKY-Drive’ highly-efficient automatic transmission. These all-new powertrains form the base of Mazda’s strategy to improve average fleet-wide fuel economy 30% by 2015 compared to 2008 levels.

TMC and Mazda Agree to Hybrid System Technology License

Hiroshima, 29 March 2010. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and Mazda Motor Corporation have reached an agreement on the supply under license of hybrid technology used in the Toyota Prius.

Leveraging this agreement, Mazda plans to combine the hybrid system with its next-generation SKY engine that is currently under development, and develop and manufacture a hybrid vehicle in Japan. Mazda is aiming to commence sales of a hybrid vehicle starting in Japan by 2013.
