An automobile masterpiece – ABT Sportsline is showing the highlights of 2010 in Geneva
For the car industry spring traditionally starts with the Geneva Motor Show. This is because nowhere sets the stage for extravagant vehicles better than in the halls near Lake Geneva. The public here is particularly interested, and the ambience exudes pure flair. This statement is no exaggeration, as the Bavarian company will be presenting special creations in Geneva, which perfectly exhibit their know-how regarding the latest technology and expressive design. Details about the new models will only be disclosed at the trade fair, but the sheer naming of the vehicles is enough to make the heart skip a beat: for example, ABT Sportsline will be the first tuner to present its version of the new Audi A8 at the Motor Show, the ABT AS8. Alongside the elegant-dynamic luxury limousine a real sports car dream also awaits visitors – the ABT R8 GTR. Even when motionless this model athlete from Kempten shows how it goes about things on the road. This sporting spirit is also embodied by the new ABT Golf R. With this vehicle ABT is continuing the rich tradition of “Uber-Golfs” which started with the first GTI. Just in time for the start of spring, the German tuner is also showing off one more clear highlight: the ABT R8 Spyder stands for fresh-air experience with an edge, as this car is of course not just a “high-end roadster”, but also a real super sports car. The four show highlights of ABT Sportsline are linked by their perfection in detail and their impressive, beautiful and dynamic design. The new ABT Golf VI GTD – a diesel with 190 HP
Some affectionately call it the “racing tractor”, as it combines sporty dynamism with enormous torque of 390 Nm. Rudolf Diesel would have had fun with the 190 HP (140 kW) strong “off-spring” of his invention. He would certainly never have thought it possible that the diesel engine could reach 100 km/h in a 7.1 second sprint. A top speed of 230 km/h and plenty of steam in all seven gears – that is how ABT Sportsline defines the 2.0 TDI in the new Golf GTD. This is because after its treatment in the Allgaeu the abbreviation now stands for “Gewinner Tanken Diesel – Winners tank diesel”. The Golf still retains, of course, its economical qualities, as the fuel consumption remains at the low level of the series diesel version.
It goes without saying that the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen group also offers the popular bodykit which is tailor-made for the Golf VI on the compact diesel. The extra portion of sportiness impresses immediately: the front spoiler, front grille, side sills, rear spoiler, rear apron set and the typical ABT 4-pipe rear muffler suit the powerful appearance of the ABT Golf VI GTD. As an addition to the aerodynamic elements, ABT also recommends the sporty AR and BR wheels in 18 and 19 inch, which are available in combination with high-performance tyres. The ABT TT-RS – Comeback of the famous five
Five cylinders, plenty of power with four wheel drive – that was the original “ur-Quattro”, a sports coupe which caused a furore around 30 years ago and is also one of the highlights of the 50-year tuning history of ABT. General manager Hans-J?rgen Abt remembers the racing car, which now enthrals car fans in the Kempten showroom and creates a link to the new TT-RS: “Our ur-Quattro is a big banger, a sports machine which played in the Champions league. Quattro technology and performance are in perfect harmony. The TT-RS brings this magical combination back on the road.” Then, as now, a fully-charged 5-cylinder engine provides optimum power. The cool, compact sports car has it, in the truest sense of the word: the ABT version of the ABT TT-RS provides 420 HP (309kW). Thanks to ABT POWER, i.e. a charge air cooler and optimisation of the engine electronics, 80 HP (59 kW) more is put to work. That is enough to catapult the Bavarian super sports car to an electronically regulated tempo of 282 km/h. The athlete from the Alps can thereby manage the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
An ABT TT-RS is therefore able to keep up with the quickest of the quick at all times or even pass them by. Precisely what the ur-Quattro from ABT was also able to do. There is, however, one difference between then and now: contrary to the classic from the 80s the TT-RS is not just available as a sports coupe, but also as a cool roadster.

The matchless Golf – ABT’s new GTI
ABT Sportsline has now been customising vehicles for five decades – and right on time for the Anniversary, the Allgau Company is presenting the new, sixth GTI. Sporty and fast “Golfs” in particular have carried these three letters since 1976. ABT was the place to go for everyone who wanted even more dynamic and driving fun from the very beginning. The latest generation of the compact sports car also bears the magic abbreviation, and of course it is now available in a breathtaking ABT version. 
The engine output is impressive, because due to optimized engine management (ABT POWER), the standard 210 HP (154 kW) become a dynamic 260 HP (191 kW). ABT POWER S makes the GTI even hotter: a new turbocharger, „Made in Kempten“, is used additionally in this case. The 2.0 TSI then has an output of a sporty 300 HP (221 kW) and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in around six seconds. Thanks to ABT chassis springs, the GTI’s centre of gravity is located a good 30 mm lower, so the ?ber-Golf can be driven even more sportily. The chassis setting, which was designed by Christian Abt, is especially good fun on winding roads. And in the extreme case, the powerful ABT braking system also kicks in.
But an ABT Golf GTI is not only a hot piece of sports equipment for the road, it also looks like one: the bodywork package that designers have created underlines the car’s pure dynamics: no matter how you look at the GTI, it is always impressive. Rear spoiler and rear apron superstructure, side mouldings, front grill and apron as well as the diagonal 4-pipe exhaust system form one unit. ABT engineers also designed a front lip, which provide s a power-performance in combination with the front apron and the new ABT Daytime Running Lamp. The equally elegant as expressive colouring matches this: the paintwork in carbon steel grey metallic harmonises perfectly with side mouldings and front lip in the contrast colour red. The design also continues consistently in the interior, for all screens, the ornamental rings of the combination instrument and the steering wheel panels are painted in the signal tone. One look at the Allg?u sports car will tell you that it’s more than a “normal” Golf GTI – and consequently the sixth variation of the fast compact car with the large tailgate is steeped in the best tradition. Namely, its five predecessors also became powerful Golfs at ABT. ABT and GTI: these six letters have simply belonged together for 33 years.

The most powerful series diesel in the world has surpassed itself
A diesel with 1200 Newton metres of torque and 560 HP (412 kW)? Even though the figures might suggest otherwise, ABT Sportsline is by no means now consorting with the manufacturers of heavy truck engines. The world`s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen group has merely made it its business to take the most powerful car diesel engine of all times, built in the Audi Q7, and squeeze even more power out of it.

The new ABT AS3 – handsomely refreshed
The Audi A3 has been a real success, one which re-defined the term “premium” for the compact car class. An extra portion of dynamism in the optics and the performance is offered by ABT Sportsline. The renowned vehicle turner of course also took on the facelifted version of the long-term best-seller from the Ingolstadt company – and thanks to the modified bonnet, grill, bumpers, fenders and LED light line from their product range the car has an even greater presence. It stands there as if it`s ready to attack, even more so with the ABT bodywork kit signalising extra power and sportiness: its front spoiler insert, side skirts, fender inserts as well as a rear apron have been tailor made for the cool body of the ABT AS3. Even the typical ABT 4-pipe exhaust unit blends into the sporty design perfectly. The Allgaeu company recommends mounting model AR or BR ABT Sports alloys, which are available in 18 and 19 inch, as an extravagant supplement to the optical package.

Open for elegance – the new ABT AS5 cabrio
Sportiness and elegant design are not mutually exclusive – at least when the designers at ABT Sportsline are involved. “It is important to capture the character of the car and emphasise its uniqueness”, says Hans-Juergen Abt, the General Manager of ABT Sportsline explaining the demands which are made on the creative department. The result is a breathtakingly beautiful cabrio, which is recognisable as a real “Allgauer” not just due to its typical 4-pipe exhaust unit. The front with the ABT grill, which additionally accentuates the area around the headlights and fog lights, the front apron and the side sills – all give the open AS5 even more presence. The rear apron and exhaust unit perfectly suit the optics of the extraordinary vehicle. To round of the successful appearance ABT recommends the cool bold BR alloys in 19 or 20 inch respectively. The company from Allg?u of course also offers complete wheel sets with high-performance tyres.
