SHANGHAI, JANUARY 7, 2010 – Ford Motor Company today reported record sales in 2009 for its joint-ventures and wholly-owned entities in China, with full-year total sales soaring to 440,619 units, or an increase of 44 percent over last year.

Ford Motor’s passenger car joint-venture in China, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) reported record sales of 315,791 units for 2009, an increase of 55 percent year-over-year. CFMA’s best-ever year was lead by continued strong sales of the popular Ford Focus and introduction of the all-new Ford Fiesta, as well as new variants of Ford S-MAX and upgraded 2010 Ford Mondeo.

“We continued to launch world-class Ford vehicles in China, further expanding our vehicle lineup to suit a wider range of China consumer tastes, requirements and lifestyles,” said Robert Graziano, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China. “Our record sales performance in 2009 was driven by the incredible response that Chinese consumers continue to have for Ford brand vehicles, and reaffirmed that we have the right plan, and the right products, to continue driving the success of our China business.”

The exceptional China market appeal of the all-new Ford Fiesta continued with record retail sales of 7,163 units in December. In 2009, total sales of this popular nameplate in China reached 47,358 units. Fiesta has been one of the most popular models in China’s small-car market since its March launch, and is particularly well received by the younger generation. The new Fiesta has received numerous prestigious awards worldwide, including more than forty awards in China.

Ford Focus achieved its best-ever full-year sales in 2009 of 134,336 units, underscoring its position as one of the top sellers in China’s mid-size car market. The Focus’ popularity as a sporty brand received another boost from the launch of the Focus Sport Limited Edition in November. Since its China launch in 2005, more than 450,000 Focus have been sold.

The Ford Mondeo and Ford S-MAX nameplates also achieved solid double-digit growth for the full year, with sales that increased by 39 and 125 percent during the fourth quarter, respectively, versus the same period a year ago.

Jiangling Motors Corporation, Ford Motor’s commercial vehicle investment in China, reached sales of 114,688 units, with Ford Transit leading the high-end light commercial van segment in 2009 with sales of 33,585 units, up 22 percent from a year ago.

“In 2010, we plan to build on our success in China by continuing to offer Ford products that are among best-in-class in safety, quality, fuel efficiency, technology and design,” added Graziano, “The introduction of our Ford EcoBoost engine and Powershift transmission technologies will help support our drive for sustainable mobility by increasing the fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.”

The consistent sales growth has been supported by Ford’s growing nationwide dealer network. By the end of 2009, Ford’s authorized dealer network included 241 full-service dealerships and more than 350 sales and service outlets across the country.

“We will further enhance our world-class customer experience through the ongoing expansion of our nationwide Ford dealer network and world-class customer service offerings,” explained Graziano. “Our service warranty program will be expanded to 3 years/100,000km to provide added value to our customers through our Changan Ford dealer network.”

The new warranty coverage program, effective on January 1, 2010, will cover the entire Ford product lineup, reaffirming Ford’s commitment to providing class-leading service offerings to Chinese customers.
