Magna Steyr Announces New Contract Relating to the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
GRAZ, Austria, October 7, 2009–Magna Steyr has been contracted to develop and manufacture the aluminium body for the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in Graz. This prestigious program award highlights the company’s internationally leading complete vehicle competence.
In addition to the aluminium body, Magna Steyr will develop and manufacture other major parts and modules of the vehicle, including the gullwing doors, as well as hood and deck lids. Most of the paintwork will also be completed in Graz, and Magna Steyr will provide engineering support for the development of the complete vehicle.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was recently exhibited at the international motor show in Frankfurt and its market launch is scheduled for spring 2010. Weighing only 1,620kg, the car features the latest in lightweight technology and will be available in two variants: coup? and convertible.
The program award represents a continuation of the long-term cooperation between Magna Steyr and Mercedes-Benz which includes 30 years of building the G-class at Magna Steyr’s Graz facility.
