Peugeot brings WiFi technology to the car

At the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show, Automobiles Peugeot unveils a brand new piece of equipment: WiFi On Board. A WiFi unit located inside the cabin is linked to a subscription-free 3G/3G+ USB stick that receives the customer’s SIM card to offer continuous internet use.

This equipment will be offered as a preview on the 5008 and will then be introduced on other vehicles of the brand. The WiFi unit will be on sale in the network as an accessory at the beginning of 2010.

WiFi On Board operates via the 3G/3G+ network using the customer’s SIM card, therefore leaving the customer free to choose his own price plan and operator. Vehicle occupants will be able to access the Internet (email, instant messaging, practical information, online games, etc.). Access will be provided when stationary or when driving, thus enabling business customers to stay permanently connected, passengers to have access to practical information and younger passengers will be able to continue playing online during long journeys.
