Stuttgart – Bosch Engineering GmbH (BEG), headquartered in Abstatt near Heilbronn has been providing engineering services, in particular for motor vehicles, for ten years: the wholly owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH was set up under the name Asset GmbH on July 1, 1999. Since then, the company has grown rapidly. The initial workforce comprised 13 associates. One year later there were 100 and, in June 2008, already 1,000. Today, BEG is one of the world’s largest automotive engineering service providers, with roughly 1,400 associates in Germany, the U.S., Japan, France, and Austria.

BEG’s services range from initial studies to series production, and focus on the specific software development for engine management, safety, and comfort systems, and their electrical or electronic integration. What started as a service for luxury-class cars, studies, and special models of series-produced vehicles has meanwhile been transferred to related areas such as commercial vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery, ships as well as industrial applications. Moreover, BEG also provides test bench and testing services and pools the Bosch Group’s motor-racing activities.

Automakers have been offering an increasingly wide range of vehicle variants since the 1990s, and exclusive manufacturers are interested in state-of-the-art automotive technology for their models. Bosch Engineering has the solutions they need. “Our work here is based on a modular system. We single out individual systems and components from the wide range of products offered by the Bosch Group and tailor them individually to our customers’ needs,” says president Bernhard Bihr. He outlines the company’s constantly growing portfolio: “Bosch Engineering has expertise in anything that can move of its own accord – from diggers to aircraft and from one to 24 cylinders.” The years to come will see numerous growth opportunities. “Legislative requirements alone – for further reductions in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, for example – will increase the demand for engineering services”, Bihr says.

The Bosch Group is a leading global supplier of technology and services. In the areas of automotive and industrial technology, consumer goods, and building technology, some 280,000 associates generated sales of 45.1 billion euros in fiscal 2008. The Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its more than 300 subsidiaries and regional companies in over 60 countries. If its sales and service partners are included, then Bosch is represented in roughly 150 countries. This worldwide development, manufacturing, and sales network is the foundation for further growth. Each year, Bosch spends more than 3.5 billion euros, or eight percent of its sales revenue, for research and development, and applies for over 3,000 patents worldwide. With all its products and services, Bosch enhances the quality of life by providing solutions which are both innovative and beneficial.

The company was set up in Stuttgart in 1886 by Robert Bosch (1861-1942) as “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering.” The special ownership structure of Robert Bosch GmbH guarantees the entrepreneurial freedom of the Bosch Group, making it possible for the company to plan over the long term and to undertake significant up-front investments in the safeguarding of its future. Ninety-two percent of the share capital of Robert Bosch GmbH is held by Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH, a charitable foundation. The majority of voting rights are held by Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG, an industrial trust. The entrepreneurial ownership functions are carried out by the trust. The remaining shares are held by the Bosch family and by Robert Bosch GmbH.
