European Premiere for all-new Cadillac SRX
Mark McNabb, North American Vice President, Cadillac/Premium Channel, states: “The all-new SRX represents the next generation of innovative, dynamic crossovers for customers of luxury vehicles. New technologies offer better drivetrain efficiency and safety, while the design expresses power and dynamics. The new SRX connects with customers of premium cars emotionally as well as rationally. Simply put, this crossover is for people who value performance and utility.“
The mechanical efficiency is highlighted by Cadillac’s first use of the 3.0L V6, offering 193 kW (262 hp). With the latest technology of direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, this engine achieves optimal fuel economy and a 25 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. Fuel economy is further improved by the Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission, which provides lower engine rpm at constant highway speeds.
The standard all-wheel-drive system guarantees a high level of active safety. Power is transferred between front and rear, as well as divided left and right, with an electronically regulated limited-slip rear differential (eLSD). The differential directs up to 100 percent of engine torque to the wheel with the most traction.
The all-new SRX rides on comparably wide tracks, which makes for a visually strong road presence, but more importantly, the setup favors safe and comfortable road handling. Dimensions of 4833 mm in length, 1910 mm in width and 1668 mm in height are markedly reduced from the current model, without sacrificing interior roominess for driver, passengers and luggage.
The classy and individualistic exterior design of the new SRX is complemented by its stylish, high-quality interior. Several design cues signal its connection with the successful new CTS, including features such as an internal hard drive, pop-up navigation screen, hand-cut-and-sewn interior, turn-adaptable headlights and auto-leveling suspension.
The SRX was also designed to meet European pedestrian protection standards; and the front bumper is positioned for greater compatibility with car bumpers.
Cadillac CTS model line-up
The 2009 Cadillac CTS Sport Sedan combines advanced technologies with lavish luxury and dramatic design, which is unmistakably Cadillac. Ample interior space and a range of fuel-efficient six-cylinder engines add to the attraction of the CTS. The 2009 line-up is being further enhanced by the arrival of new models, including the all-new CTS Sport Wagon and the spectacular CTS-V luxury performance sedan.
The Pedestrian Protection system for European CTS models senses a collision with a pedestrian along the front bumper and activates a mechanism that lifts the hood to create additional clearance to the engine compartment and reduce the impact to the pedestrian’s head. The vehicle system complies with all European Union safety regulations and is designed to sense and discriminate collisions with a pedestrian at vehicle speeds ranging from 27 km/h to 45 km/h.
The CTS models offer the choice of two trim levels, Elegance and Sport Luxury. In the CTS interior, advances in surface treatment, technology, materials, and construction underscore technical precision with elegant, hand-crafted details.
These include clean dashboard design, LED lighting and hand-cut-and-sewn accents with French stitching. Available features include a 40-gigabyte internal hard drive, pop-up navigation screen, and a hand-cut and-sewn interior with Sapele wood accents.
Gasoline direct injection technology gives the CTS more power, while maintaining fuel economy and lowering emissions. A 3.6L V6, direct injection power unit generating 229 kW (311 hp) is matched with fuel-saving six-speed transmissions, the electronically controlled Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic, or, for the Sedan, a Aisin six-speed manual. Both the CTS sedan and the CTS Sport Wagon offer AWD as an option.
CTS Sport Wagon
Cadillac is presenting one of the important European introductions, the CTS Sport Wagon. The sporty station wagon serves as an expansion of the CTS line, which gave its debut last year with the four-door sedan.
The dynamic appearance of the CTS Sport Wagon is shaking up this class known for conservative design. The first priority for the development team was a roomy interior, yet the powerful lines and sporty elegance are not in the way of function. The power-operated lift gate integrates the typical v-form of recent Cadillac design, as well as a roof spoiler and taillights tapering to a point.
The wheel base of the CTS Sport Wagon is 2880 mm, the same as for the sedan, but offering a generous luggage compartment. There are more striking design elements, such as 19-inch wheels and an optional panorama sunroof over the rear section of the vehicle.
Cadillac CTS-V: High-tech and high performance in a family car
The CTS-V takes on the fastest sedans in the world with impeccable road manners and a luxurious experience. The high-performance four-door sports sedan offers a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine with 415 kW (564 hp) and sensational torque of 747 Nm at 3800 rpm. The delivery to European customers is about to begin.
CTS-V adds to Cadillac’s well-established V-series performance line, this time with the combination of sports car performance and all the features of a most prestigious luxury sedan. Besides the mighty engine, race-inspired highlights include a six-speed automatic or sporty six-speed manual transmission, and a chassis with the latest generation of the innovative „Magnetic Selective Ride Control“, with direct links to racetrack performance. This system manages starts and acceleration for optimal traction under all conditions.
CTS-V shows typical Cadillac design features inside and out. The interior reflects the modern elements of the CTS sedan, combined with sporty equipment like the high-grade Recaro seats.
BLS and BLS Wagon
For 2009, BLS is the Cadillac with the widest range of powertrain choices. BLS sedan and wagon offer three gasoline engines (all with turbo charging), two turbo diesel and one clean-emissions Bio-ethanol engine, which can be operated with Bio-ethanol E85 as well as with conventional fuel.
An even more powerful 2.8L V6 with 205 kW (280 hp) is the new top choice for the turbocharged gasoline engines. Both BLS sedan and wagon are offered with this power plant mated with permanent all-wheel-drive. Additionally, all-wheel-drive can be ordered for both sedan and wagon with a 154 kW (210 hp) four-cylinder turbo (also available in front-wheel-drive).
The 110 kW (150 hp) and 132 kW (180 hp) common-rail 1.9L turbo diesel engines are powerful direct injected units offering the dynamic driving performance that customers have come to expect from Cadillac. The top of the diesel line, 132 kW engine features a two-stage turbo diesel that delivers 400 Nm of maximum torque. It gives the BLS a top speed of 220 km/h and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 8.7 seconds. Diesel-powered models are fitted with a maintenance-free diesel particulate filter for optimal emissions levels.
The BLS wagon and sedan are the first Cadillac models to be offered in Europe with the option of a low-emission, Bio-ethanol FLEXPOWER engine, which runs on E85 Bio-ethanol, unleaded gasoline or any combination of both fuels, producing up to 147 kW (200 hp).
All engines share common traits of high torque and low fuel consumption, and are matched to six-speed manual and five- or six-speed automatic transmissions, depending on engine type. StabiliTrak electronic stability control is fitted as standard equipment across all BLS models.
The Cadillac BLS sedan offers an attractive and elegant alternative in the premium mid-size market. The Cadillac BLS wagon measures 4716 mm, compared with 4680 mm for the BLS sedan. It combines compact, sporty lines with a high degree of versatility and functionality, offering a total of 1285 liters of flexible and versatile cargo space with the rear seats folded down. As with all Cadillac automobiles, the level of standard equipment is high, including automatic dual-zone climate control on all models.
Escalade
The iconic Cadillac Escalade is rightly regarded as an aspirational vehicle around the world. Performance of the 301 kW (409 hp), 6.2L Vortec aluminum V8 with VVT (variable valve timing) and six-speed automatic transmission is further enhanced for 2009. Later in 2009, a 6.0L V8 Hybrid will feature GM’s latest Two-Mode Hybrid technology.
The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is the first implementation worldwide of the fuel-saving Two-Mode Hybrid System in a full-size luxury SUV. Escalade Hybrid dramatically reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, with more than 40 percent fuel consumption reduction in city driving, while offering all the advantages of a spacious luxury SUV.
Two-Mode Hybrid technology can operate the vehicle solely on battery-electric power during idling or low-speed driving situations. Escalade Hybrid also incorporates Active Fuel Management technology that enables the Vortec 6.0L V8 engine to operate on only four cylinders in certain driving conditions to save fuel. The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid has permanent all-wheel-drive.
The Escalade is instantly identifiable as Cadillac’s premium luxury SUV. Its attributes are further enhanced for 2009 with standard 22-inch, seven-spoke chromed aluminum wheels, power-tilt steering wheel and standard DVD navigation system with integrated rearview camera for reverse driving.
